Erdogan

Hamburg. A city which officially hosts 62.000 turkish citizens, being the main migrant community in the city.

The political relations between both Germany and Turkey have been decaying since Erdogan came to power in 2003. In 2014 he became president, a time where the whole refugee crisis was reaching it's peak.
Soon he started blackmailing the European Union in order to get more and more funds threatening to "release" refugees to Europe. Surprisingly, or not, Europe has played his game but since 2017 that something has changed: In April Erdogan has organized a referendum to grant him some more power, including the control of the media and, most of all, of the justice system.

His campaign tour in Europe  was rather polemic with some violence from his private security forces against protesters in Holland and the cancelling of some meetings in Germany as security could not be granted. Erdogan has promptly accused Merkel of using Nazi methodes.
Besides the whole polemic, Erdogan has managed to win the referendum with a strong approval of the turkish living abroad.
From then on, several journalists have been put in jail, such as the german Deniz Yücel which was kept for a year without any charges. Also the former St. Pauli player Deniz Naki was arrested for "Terror Propaganda" in Turkey and in January this year was a victim of an armed attack on the motorway.

Of course that the streets are not indiferent to these events and several protests have been set all around, such as the name of people who are in jail in Turkey for political reasons.
